Prospect Spotlight: Drew Rom

This edition of Prospect Spotlight covers the first pitcher covered Drew Rom. Drew is a left handed pitcher that was selected by the Baltimore Orioles in the 4th round of the 2018 MLB draft. Currently, Rom is ranked 18th and 22nd in the Orioles farm system by Baseball America and MLB Pipeline respectively. This season Drew has split time between the Bowie Baysox and the Norfolk Tides. Rom has pitched to an 4.11 ERA with 114 strikeouts in 92 innings pitched combined between Bowie and Norfolk, and has a .222 batting average against in Triple-A so far this year.

Both Baseball America and MLB Pipeline have given Drew an Overall grade of 45. The floor for in the Majors is as a long reliever and a ceiling as middle of the rotation arm. I have Drew rated as a 50 Overall prospect and a future lower arm in the rotation as either a 4 or 5, he has average tools and has succeeded at every level so far. Look for Drew to try to break camp this spring training, but will most likely be a mid season call up next season.
