Orioles to extend protective netting at Camden Yards

After last seasons incident involving a foul ball striking a young girl during a New York Yankees game, which sent her to the hospital. Ten teams decided that was enough and extended the netting for the 2017 season. Leading to the reason why this upcoming season the Baltimore Orioles will extend their netting in hopes to protective the fans at Camden Yards.

Beginning in the 2018-2019 season, what previously was only extended behind the backstop between each dugout. Announced Wednesday, netting will be at both Camden Yards and Ed Smith Stadium this season. The focus on fan safety has begun in 2018 not only in Baltimore but has lead to 25 of the 30 major league teams announcing the plan to extend the netting.

Due to this increase in safety the Orioles will be extending the netting from section 58 to 16. The added netting will provide a new level of safety to watching the game up close, not only for foul balls but players losing control of their bats as well. With these changes makes the dream of catching a foul ball that much harder.
