Padres hit five home runs, beat Orioles 10–5: Recap 6/26/19

The Baltimore Orioles dropped game two of a quick two-game interleague series against Manny Machado and the San Diego Padres by a score of 10–5.

Dylan Bundy started the game for Baltimore and gave up five earned runs over four innings. The 26-year-old falls to 3–10 on the season after today’s loss.

The Orioles found the scorecard first, as Renato Núñez scored Hanser Alberto on an RBI double in the bottom of the first inning. After the O’s took an early 1–0 lead, the Padres scored four unanswered runs and managed a 4–1 lead by the top of the third inning.

Jonathan Villar gave the Orioles hope in the bottom of the fourth inning with a two-run home run to left field. After Baltimore cut the lead to 4–3, San Diego responded again and scored four unanswered to stretch the lead to 8–3 in the sixth inning.

Villar was consistent at the plate throughout the game for Baltimore tonight, going 3-for-4 with two RBI.

Home runs hurt Baltimore’s pitching staff today, as San Diego hit five homers in the game. However, the Orioles were big on home runs today as well, as the Birds tallied three long shots.

Pedro Severino hit his ninth home run of the season in the bottom of the sixth inning to cut San Diego’s lead to 8–4. After Severino’s solo shot in the sixth inning, the Padres tallied on two more runs and eventually won the game 10–5.

Manny Machado finished game two 1-for-4 and received another warm welcome from the Baltimore home crowd. Machado and the Padres won both games of the series and improve to 40–40 on the season.

The O’s fall to 22–58 and face the Cleveland Indians in their next series starting Friday. Baltimore has now lost 13 of their last 14 games.
