Orioles fall to Red Sox, drop series in game two: Recap 6/15/19

The Baltimore Orioles hosted the Boston Red Sox for game two and had a chance to tie up the series.

Dylan Bundy got the start this afternoon, and until he was finally hit in the sixth inning, was fantastic. Bundy tossed five innings, allowed eight hits, three runs (two earned), and struck out eight. Although Bundy could not get an out in the sixth inning, it was a good start for him.

Both offenses were shut down for the first five innings, as the game entered the sixth at 0-0. Finally in the sixth, the Red Sox put on three runs to go ahead 3-0.

The Birds would answer right away in the bottom of the sixth, when Renato Nunez doubled in Hanser Alberto. Nunez’s 12th double on the year cut the lead to 3-1.

Later in the sixth, Jonathan Villar scored our soon-to-be All-Star, Trey Mancini, on a sacrifice fly to cut the Red Sox lead to 3-2.

In the seventh inning, Richard Bleier was taken deep by J.D. Martinez. This solo shot extended the Boston lead to 4-2.

Entering the top of the ninth, with the score 4-2 in the Red Sox’s favor, the Orioles let the game get away.

Miguel Castro would surrender two runs to extend the deficit to 6-2. Then a throwing error by catcher Pedro Severino allowed another run to score. This gave the Red Sox the ultimate lead of 7-2.

Starting pitcher Dylan Bundy is our MSB Orioles Player of the Game, as he tossed a great five innings, shutting down the reigning champion offense for the first half of the game, helped in part by eight strikeouts. Bundy, however, took the loss and moves to 3-8 on the season.

Make sure to grab dad and catch the Orioles in tomorrow’s series finale on Father’s Day Sunday at 1:05 p.m. ET.
