HOT TAKE: The 2023 Washington Mystics can surprise many

Media day for 2023 Washington Mystics was high energy today. There is a lot to build off from the 2022 season Mystics. It starts with new head coach Eric Thibault. He stated he wants to see better tempo on both sides of the ball, taking advantage of the transition game but getting to the offense early.

The Washington Mystics offensively was not a “box office” offense last season in the modern-day WNBA offense matters. An interesting stat that stands out with the Mystics last season they finished 10th in shooting from three. Keep in mind this Mystic team was the number one defense for a reason.

From an offensive perspective, Washington has the shooting such as Brittney Sykes, Ariel Atkins, EDD, and Shatori Walker-Kimbrough. The question under new head coach Eric Thibault how will this offense look? The season will tell the story, but we expect the Mystics to carry 11 players, but now the Mystics signed the former 2022 4th pick Emily Engstler. Now this could make some heads turn, depending on how things work out.

So far so good on training camp everyone enters camp healthy, and having the third best odds to win the wnba finals compared to two other teams that added former MVPS, but those teams still have play. Games are not won on paper
