Capitals head to Boston for a Saturday tilt

11-4         Capitals   (6-6-1)     at      Bruins (5-3-3)

TV Coverage:  NBC Sports Washington and NHL Network

Last game for Washington:   4-3 win vs NY Islanders

  • Lars Eller 2 goals, assist
  • Taylor Chorney and Alex Chiasson each a goal
  • John Carlson and Chandler Stephenson each 2 assists

Last game for Boston: 2-1 win vs Vegas

  • Riley Nash and Sean Kuraly each a goal
  • Torey Krug 2 assists
  • Tuukka Rask 28 saves

Capitals preview-Braden Holtby will be in net tonight for Washington. The Capitals PK, which is near the bottom, took another hit on Thursday as they gave up 2 more goals. The Caps offense did score four goals on only 19 shots, which outs them near the bottom of the league. One of the reasons, though, why the Capitals beat the Islanders was that they won 62% of faceoffs, which helped them to the victory.

Watch out for the line of Stephenson, Eller and Wilson. Since being put on the same line for Washington’s game against the Oilers in Edmonton a week ago, (three games) that trio has accumulated three goals and eight points, the most of any of Washington’s four forward lines over that brief span.

Bruins preview-Tuukka Rask will be in net tonight for Boston. The Bruins have been plagued with injuries recently. Forward David Krejci, is out for the game with a back injury, forward David Backed is out with diverticulitis and forward Brad Marchand is a game-time decision with a lower-body injury, and didn’t participate in the morning skate. When Boston is on even strength they average and allow 3 goals a game, but a key to the Bruins is on special teams where they are 4th on the power play and penalty kill.
