Bowie Baysox Weekly Recap: 5/8- 5/13

The Bowie Baysox open this week with a 14-15 record, looking to hopefully show some life this week and play above .500 baseball. Here is a recap from each of the games.

Game 1: 5/8/18: Bowie 1 Altoona 2

A pitchers duel in Altoona, Pennsylvania… Lucas Long goes 5 innings of 2 hit ball and one run allowed. Luis Ysla comes in for the 6th and allows a run to put the Baysox down 2-0. Bowie fights in the 9th with a RBI single in the 9th inning however it was not enough for the Baysox in this one.

Game 2: 5/9/18: Bowie 8 Altoona 2

The Baysox get their revenge with Hunter Harvey pitching his longest outing in a long time and earning his first victory since 2014 in Delmarva. He goes 5 innings, allowing 2 earned runs on 5 hits. The Baysox offense beats up on one of the top prospects in all of baseball, Mitch Keller. Keller was forced out of the ballgame after only 4.1 innings, allowing 6 runs (4 ER) Mike Yasterzemski led the way for the offense going 4-4 with a RBI and a walk. The Baysox ended up with 14 hits as a team en route to a 8-2, Hunter Harvey win. Mike Yasterzemski is the player of the game.

Game 3: 5/10/18 Hartford 6 Bowie 7

The Baysox start the series off strong with John Means earning the quality start, going 7 innings, allowing 2 earned runs, and 6 strikeouts. Ryan Mountcastle returns from his spring training hand injury and collects 3 hits and a RBI. Aderlin Rodriguez and Austin Hays both homered for multiple RBIs and Cedric Mullins got a RBI triple. Ryan Mountcastle is the player of the game for going 3-4 with a RBI in his season debut which is very impressive. Hopefully Mountcastle can keep this up.

Game 4: 5/11/18: Hartford 0 Bowie 13

Keegan Akin was phenomenal, going 6.2 innings with 6 strikeouts and no runs. The bullpen of Ryan Meisinger and Jay Flaa also did a great job of keeping the Yard Goat’s bat’s silent. The offense erupts for 13 runs on 15 hits. Mike Yasterzemski stays hot going 3-4 with 4 RBIs and a walk. Audry Perez falls a triple shy of the cycle but collects 3 hits and 5 RBIs. Several others contribute including Ademar Rifaela, Corbin Joseph, Austin Hays, Erick Salecedo, and Ryan Mountcastle. The player of the game goes to Audry Perez, the catcher, for going 3-5 with 5 RBIs (2B, HR, 1B)

Game 5: 5/12/18: Hartford 6 Bowie 4

Jayson Aquino starts off the game looking to build off his last start in Bowie to set the tone for the rest of the season. Tonight was not his night he goes 3 innings allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits. The offense was quiet outside of home runs by Aderlin Rodriguez and Audry Perez. Perez’s 3-run homer occured in the ninth inning, but the rest of the team could not keep in going and the Baysox lose by two.

Game 6: 5/13/18: Hartford 9 Bowie 4

In a start similar to Aquino’s the night before, Lucas Long goes 4 innings, allowing 4 earned runs on 6 hits. Tanner Chleborad allows 3 runs (2 ER) in just one inning of work. Corban Joseph finished 3-4 leading the team in hits, Cedric Mullins finished with 2 hits and 2 RBIs. Flaa and Fry also allow runs out of the bullpen in the last 4 innings of the game. The Baysox pitchers look to bounce back tomorrow.

The Baysox finish right where they started, 1 game below .500. Next week brings the same goal as this week. Hopefully next week they can get a win streak going to keep themselves above .500 the rest of the season.
