Annapolis, MD: The Hot-Bed of Sports on Saturday

April 14th is going to be a gorgeous day to be outside. The weather is to be 73 degrees, and partly cloudy. With Spring in full swing, it is only right that Annapolis will be buzzing with outdoor events to indulge in.

On the schedule in Annapolis, there is no shortage of sporting events to spectate.

The day kicks off at 7am with collegiate Lightweight Rowing, “The Forster Cup”, in which Navy Midshipmen will be competing in. If you would like to watch, it is going to be a little tricky… If the team uses the lower course of the Severn River, spectators can watch by the sea wall by the intramural fields on Navy’s premises. If they use the upper course, unfortunately there is not a place for spectators.

The Navy Men’s Tennis team will serve up a brunch-time treat as they host Patriot League foe Bucknell Bison at 11am on the outdoor courts.

For lunch at 12pm, head on down to Bishop Stadium for Navy Baseball’s “throwback” doubleheader, honoring the year 1893. There will be Cracker Jacks, Coca-Colas, and hotdogs to devour for your lunch. The first 100 guests will receive a t-shirt. Admission is free.

If you are one of the lucky ones to have purchased a ticket, I will see you at 1pm at St John’s College for the annual “Johnnies versus Midshipmen” croquet match.

If you enjoy golf, the Mids will be playing on their home-course Naval Academy Golf Club for an all day “Navy Spring Invitational” match.

To round out Navy athletics, the sailing team is hosting a regatta; also an all day event. Robert Crown Sailing Center

If you prefer to have an after-dinner evening of entertainment, DC United will be hosting the Columbus Crew at 7pm, at Navy-Marine Corps Stadium. Tickets are as low as $20. To purchase: click here for tickets
