Where will Caps pending free agent Braden Holtby end up?

Washington Capitals goaltender Braden Holtby is going to be a free agent at the end of this season. During last the free agency period, from the end of last season, to the start of this season, goalies, were getting really big contracts.

Andrei Vasilevski from the Tampa Bay Lightning got a contract worth $10,500,000 over the span of 3 years. Sergei Bobrovsky got a seven-year, $70 million contract.

While both of these deals are good, for the player and team to help bolster the chances at bringing home Lord Stanleys, cup, Holtby, who has won a cup but has not put up numbers close to earning a contract like this.

This season, his numbers read as 19 wins, 10 losses, a save percentage of .896 and a 3.11 goals against average. That is hockey’s version of baseballs earned run average. With the numbers that Holtby has put up this season, and a few teams in the NHL needing a goaltender, there are a few teams, I could see offering a $5-7 million contract a year, if they are desperate.

The Los Angles Kings, and San Jose Sharks, are the two that come to mind first and foremost. Since the Capitals, have agreed along with Holtby, to put contract talks off till the offseason, I believe he is on his way out of D.C. even though he had the most memorable save of the decade according to the NHL.
