Wayne Rooney Arrested on charges of Public Intoxication and Swearing
New D.C. United fan favorite Wayne Rooney was arrested on December 16th in Leesburg, Virginia on charges of public intoxication and swearing at Dulles International Airport.
He was reportedly arrested at the international arrivals gate. It is said that Rooney triggered a door alarm, but didn’t breach security. He was taken into the Loudoun County Adult Detention Center in Leesburg. He had been held there until he was sober and then was released on his own recognizance. This means he can be released because he’s not a threat to flea, but he’s still expected to go to court.
Rooney had just come back from an event in Saudi Arabia, likely on a private jet. His agent is saying he was detoxicated from a mixture of sleeping pills and alcohol.
D.C. United made a statement Sunday: “We are aware of news reports indicating that Wayne Rooney was arrested in December. We understand the media’s interest in this matter but believe this is a private matter for Wayne that D.C. United will handle internally. We have no further comment on the situation.”
This is not Rooney’s first trouble with the law. In September of 2017, he was arrested in Wilmslow, Cheshire, England on drunk driving charges. He was banned for driving for two years, had to pay a 170 pound fine, equivalent to $216.41 in the U.S.
The charges pressed against Rooney on December 17th have been classified as class four misdemeanors. He’s expected to go to court on January 24th.
