Washington Commanders vs Philadelphia Eagles Week 3 Preview

The Washington Commanders take on the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday at FedexField at 1 PM on FOX.  The Commanders Defense will need to have a better showing this week than the last two if they want a chance to win.  Jalen Hurts the last two games has looked really good especially when he runs the ball.  The Commanders Run Defense last week against the Lions was terrible and it needs to improve somehow.  If the D-line can stay in their rush lanes it will help contain hurts and not allow him to run.  This will make Hurts have to beat you with his arm, which I have more confidence in the defense stopping that.

Defense

The Commanders need to have made changes this week during practice.  From where the players are lining up on the field to the scheme itself.  Something needed to change for this game because if it didn’t the Eagles will put up 40 against the Commanders on Sunday.  I would like a change at the corner position by moving Fuller inside and St-Juste outside.  Also at Linebacker I would let Jamin Davis stay on in any situation he played better than Mayo did last week. Mayo actually hurt the defense a couple of times because the Lions threw the ball when he was in. I would like to see the Defense take more risks and try to force some turnovers this game.  If the Defense doesn’t look any better against the Eagles it might be time to fire Jack Del Rio.

Offense

The offense started out slow last week in Detroit, but finished strong with 4 touchdowns in the 2nd half.  I expect the offense to start strong this week and for the Commanders to throw early and often in this game.  This is because the interior of the O-line is banged up and made no holes for Gibson last week. I expect Wentz to spread the ball around like he has the last 2 games and get everyone involved. Look for the Wentz to attack the middle of the field this week and stay away from Darius Slays side of the field. I would also like to see his first turnover free game of the season after having two in each game.

Injuries

Casey Toohill is out with a concussion.

Daniel Wise is out with an ankle injury.

James Smith-Williams is questionable with an abdomen injury

This will hurt the depth of an already thin defensive line.

David Mayo is questionable with an ankle injury

William Jackson III is questionable with a back injury

Kamren Curl will make his season debut after being out the last 2 games with a thumb injury.

Wes Schweitzer will play this week after being out last week with a Hamstring injury. He will be the starting center

Predictions

I believe the Commanders defense will struggle again this week against the Eagles. I expect Hurts to have a big day on the ground and a decent day through the air as well. The offense for the Commanders will also have a good day on Sunday, but I don’t think it will be enough. I believe the Eagles win 35-31 and the over will hit for the third game in a row for the Commanders. I will be taking the over until this defense shows me something. Also I like the Commanders +7.
