Washington Commanders At Houston Texans Week 11 preview

The Washington Commanders are coming off their biggest win of the season, but it means nothing if they don’t win Sunday. The Texans are only good at one thing and that is running the ball. The Commanders have been good against the run the last few weeks. If the Commanders stop the run and play well on offense they should be able to win this game.

Offense

The Commanders offense controlled the ball for most of the game last week.  They should be able to do that again this week.  The Texans are the worst run defense in the NFL.  So I expect to see Brian Robinson and Antonio Gibson to carry the ball a lot this game.  I expect them to average at least 4.5 yards per carry on Sunday.  Doing this will allow the Commanders to use play action and hopefully hit Terry McLaurin on a deep shot.

Taylor Heinicke did a good job last week getting the ball to Terry.  Terry had the most catches in a game last week for this season.  I expect to see similar numbers again this week.  Look for the Commanders to run more slants and crosses with Terry this week.  Especially off of play action.

The O-line last week was more disciplined and that needs to continue this week.  This allowed the commanders to stay ahead of the chains and be in third and short situations.  The O-line didn’t have one holding penalty last week.  That needs to continue especially against a bad Texans team.  The offense as a whole only had three accepted penalties.  Being a delay of game, false start, and a questionable pass interference call.  If they stay disciplined again the commanders will move the ball easily.

Defense

The Commanders played well against the run last week.  This week they will need to be just as good.  The Texans are only good at one thing on offense and that is running the ball.  They rush for 4.4 yards per attempt.  And average around 102 rushing yards per game.  If the Commanders can stop the run and make the Texans one dimensional.  They should be able to get a couple of turnovers from Davis Mills throwing the ball.

The Commanders forced a season high three turnovers last week.  I don’t think they will force that many this week, but they should be able to force a couple.  Look for Benjamin St-Juste to pick off Mills one time tomorrow.  Then on the back end look for Kam Curl to jump a route and get an interception.

Finally Jamin Davis has started to play really good.  Last week he was the one getting the play calls, which was the first time doing so in his young career.  He also led the team in tackles last week with nine total tackles.  I expect to see him lead the team in tackles again this week.  Especially with Cole Holcomb still being out with a foot injury.

CB Christian Holmes is Questionable.

RB Jonathan Williams is Questionable with a Knee injury.

LB Cole Holcomb is Out with a Foot Injury.

Predictions

The commanders should be able to run all over this Texans team on Sunday. I believe Washington will have at least 150 rushing yards. For the defense I believe they will shut down the Texans run attack and make Mills throw. Causing him to throw a couple of picks. The Commanders will win this game 28-10, which will put the Commanders over .500 for the first time since week one.
