Tigers Look to Continue Road Success Against Tribe

The Towson Tigers look to hit the reset button after an off week and a loss to Albany. The homecoming loss drops the Tigers to 2-4 on the year and 1-2 in conference play. The Tigers had the lead in the 3rd but could not add to it. The Great Danes outscored the Tigers 10-8 in the second half to close it out.

Nathan Kent did not throw a touchdown after being named offensive player of the week. He threw for 217 on 31 attempts with 19 completions and an INT. Devin Matthews ran for only 48 yards on 25 attempts and found the endzone. Cater Runyon lead the Tigers in receiving with 7 catches for 74 yards.

Albany was able to find some success passing the ball as quarterback Reese Poffenbarger threw for 225 yards on 25 attempts. He completed 18 of them and 2 of them went for scores. MarQeese Dietz and Griffin Woodell were the beneficiaries of the 2 passing touchdowns.

The Tigers did a phenomenal job of shutting down the Great Danes run game. They finished the game with 74 Tortola yards. Griffin Woodell ran the ball 17 times for 76 yards.

Defensively for the Great Danes, Dylan Kelly had a huge game with 23 total tackles, and a forced fumble recovery. Ori Jean-Charles had the interception for the Danes. Anton Juncaj had 2.5 tackles for loss.

For Towson, Dion Harris-Crews led the team with 6 total tackles and 1.5 sacks. Jesus Gibbs and Ernie Smith both added sacks as well on the day. Robert Javier, who has been having an outstanding season, had the INT for the Tigers defense. Mason Woods chipped in with a fumble recovery.

Towson has now dropped all 3 games they have played at Johnny Unitas stadium. Their only 2 wins coming on the road at Morgan State and New Hampshire.

The Tigers now look towards an all important matchup with the Tribe of William & Mary. The Tribe started off red hot winning their first 4 games. However, they have stumbled recently losing 2 straight.

Their starting quarterback is Bronx, New York native Darius Wilson. He has 4 passing touchdowns on the year along with 2 interceptions. He has over 700 yards passing and is completing more than 50% of his passes.

The ground game is runningback by committee. Malachi Imoh leads the team in rushing yards with 498 and Bronson Yonder has 4 rushing touchdowns. Daria Wilson can also get it done on the ground.

Their receivers have struggled to find the endzone on the year. JT Mayo has 2 of the 4 passing touchdowns for the Tribe this year and will look to add some more this Saturday.

The Tribe rely heavily on their defense, which includes a ton of playmakers. Kevin Jarrell leads the team in tackles with 38. John Pius and Nate Lynn have 6 and 8 sacks respectively. Malcom Spencer is having a big year in the secondary with 2 INT’s. These guys are going to make it difficult for the Tiger offense.

Towson needs a win to get their season back on track. Hopefully playing on the road gives them the motivation they need to take a victory back home to Baltimore. Kickoff from Williamsburg is set for 3:30pm.

This game also happens to be William & Mary’s homecoming. Hopefully the Tigers can play spoiler and get the upset. GO TIGERS!
