The Norfolk Tides defeated the Gwinnett Stripers 4-3 Tuesday night, Aug. 11, at Harbor Park in Norfolk, Virginia, after Reed Trimble launched a go-ahead three-run home run in the eighth inning. The victory opened Norfolk’s homestand and completed a comeback from a 3-1 deficit.
Reed Trimble Delivers the Decisive Hit
The Norfolk Tides entered the eighth inning trailing 3-1 before Trimble hit his fifth home run of the season. The go-ahead shot came with two outs and gave Norfolk the lead for good.
Luis Vázquez provided the Tides’ first run with his fourth home run of the season. Norfolk had trailed 3-0 entering the bottom of the sixth inning before Vázquez’s home run cut into the Gwinnett Stripers’ advantage.
Nestor German Takes the Loss
Nestor German was the losing pitcher of record for the Gwinnett Stripers. He pitched five innings, allowing two earned runs on seven hits and three walks while striking out two batters.
German threw 91 pitches, including 54 strikes. The Gwinnett Stripers entered the game with a 20-20 second-half record and a 58-56 overall record, while the Norfolk Tides entered at 12-26 in the second half and 40-73 overall.
