Ravens Wideout Rashod Bateman Ruled Out for the Season
Head coach John Harbaugh announced number one receiver Rashod Bateman is scheduled to have Lisfranc foot surgery and will miss the remainder of the season.
Bateman missed weeks five and six for a foot injury suffered late in week four against the Buffalo Bills, initial reports were that the injury was a sprain. Bateman missed the first two days of practice leading up to week seven as he continued to deal with the injury, but returned against the Browns catching four passes for 42 yards. Bateman again was limited in a short week ahead of the Ravens Thursday night matchup against the Buccaneers. Bateman was listed as questionable all week but was active for the game, seeing only one target before exiting the contest after reaggravating the injury.
Bateman is the third leading receiver on the team behind fellow receiver Devin Duvernay and tight end Mark Andrews. In six games Bateman has 15 catches for 285 yards and two touchdowns. But the biggest loss for the Ravens will be Bateman’s 19 yards per reception average which leads the team.
The Ravens failed to trade for a receiver during yesterdays trade deadline, but options remain as disgruntled Texans receiver Brandon Cooks is likely to be released, and free agent receiver Odell Beckham has recently been linked to the Ravens.
In the meantime however the Ravens will rely on Duvernay to continue to be the teams best wide receiver, while getting receivers Demarcus Robinson and James Proche more snaps. DeSean Jackson will also look to make a difference in Bateman’s absence with Harbaugh saying at his Thursday presser that there is a “good possibility” that Jackson plays on Monday night against the Saints.
