Prospect Spotlight: Maikol Hernandez
The prospect spotlight of the day is on Maikol Hernandez, an 18 year old shortstop out of Venezuela. Hernandez signed at the age of 17 in January of 2021 and spent the year with the Dominican Summer League Orioles. MLB Pipeline has Maikol ranked as the 30th best player in the Orioles farm system and Baseball America has him ranked at 13th. Through 81 games between the Dominican Summer League and the Florida Complex League this season he’s hitting .193 with a .309 on base percentage and 25 runs batted in. Although his numbers aren’t up to where some fans would like to see him, he’s still only 18 years old and playing in a league where a lot of high draft picks start out and has plenty of time to develop. The floor for Maikol is a future utilityman on a major league roster and with time to develop a very high ceiling.
