Orioles strong all around, dominate the Red Sox 8-1 game recap 4/15/19
On this beautiful Jackie Robinson day, Dan Straily took the mound for the Baltimore Orioles, and was stellar from the jump.
In his second start this season, Straily was fooling Red Sox hitters, pitching five innings giving up just one run off of two hits.
Renato Nunez got the scoring started for the Orioles, extending his hitting streak by singling off the Green Monster, scoring Rio Ruiz. Nunez was thrown out trying to stretch it into a double, but gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
In the top of the fifth, Orioles second baseman Jonathan Villar singled in Richie Martin, extending the lead to 2-0.
Later in the fifth, Dwight Smith Jr launched his second Homerun of the series, this time a 2 run shot past the pesky pole in right field, giving the Orioles a 4-1 lead.
In the bottom of the fifth, Orioles manager Brandon Hyde recorded his first ejection of his career, arguing a controversial call on a dirty slide into second by the Red Sox. The fielders choice play scored a run for the Red Sox, cutting the Orioles lead to 4-1.
Jimmy Yacabonis and Paul Fry combine for a clean sixth inning, with Paul Fry recording a big strike out on former Oriole Steve Pearce to end the seventh
Chris Davis continued his hot series in the eighth, smashing his first Homerun since August of last season, a two run bomb to right field giving the Orioles a 6-1 lead. Yes, you read that right.
Evan Phillips gets himself out of the eighth, forcing a big double play, keeping the Orioles lead at 6-1.
The Orioles kept the heat on in the ninth, with a pair of doubles by Trey Mancini and Dwight Smith Jr, scoring two more runs from Smith Jr’s extra bagger, giving the Os some late Insurance runs and extending their lead to 8-1. Dwight Smith Jr homered and doubled today, tallying four RBIs for the afternoon.
Miguel Castro came on to pitch in the ninth with a big lead, making quick work of the Red Sox, securing the Orioles 8-1 win!
Dan Straily recorded his first win of the season (1-1) with a beautiful outing, and the Orioles improve to 7-10.
