Orioles make history, blowout Indians again 13-0: Recap 6/29/19
The Orioles hosted the Indians for game two today, sporting their Maryland flag jerseys, following a massive blowout victory in yesterday’s game. This game would be no different. Literally.
Andrew Cashner got the start today following the rain delay, and he was stellar. Cashner tossed seven scoreless innings, allowing only three hits and striking out six.
The Orioles offense picked up right where they left off last night, when Hanser Alberto doubled in a run on his eleventh of the season. This gave the Orioles a 1-0 lead in the second inning.
In the fourth inning, the Birds broke it open. Anthony Santander started it off with a solo shot to extend the lead to 2-0. Jonathan Villar then doubled in two more runs, followed by another run on a single off the bat of Trey Mancini.
Still in the fourth, Renato Nunez hit a two run bomb, his seventeenth on the season, to extend the lead to 7-0.
Trey Mancini would add another two RBIs in the fifth, when he singled in Keon Broxton and Richie Martin. This put the Os up 9-0.
The kid Chance Sisco would stay red hot, smashing his fourth home run of his short season. This two run shot extend the already massive Orioles lead to 11-0.
The Orioles would get two more runs in the seventh, off of Renato Nunez second home run of the evening. This gave the Os the ultimate lead of 13-0. Again.
Tanner Scott would come on to finish the eighth and ninth innings, keeping the Indians scoreless.
The Orioles made history tonight, becoming the first team in MLB history to win two shutout games in a row in which they scored 13 or more runs. For a rebuilding team or a championship contender, that is a fantastic feat to accomplish.
Our MSB Orioles player of the game is starting pitcher Andrew Cashner, who was stellar though seven scoreless innings, and DH Renato Nunez who went 2-3, with two home runs, four RBIs, and three runs scored, and two walks.
The Orioles won their first series since late April, and Andrew Cashner moves to 8-3 on the season.
The Orioles close out this series Sunday at 1:05 pm ET.
