Orioles Drop Series, But Not For Lack of Trying

Tonight’s game tested the Baltimore Orioles, who lost eight to seven to the Miami Marlins. This game would conclude a four game series at Camden Yards, to which the Orioles would be swept. On the mound, Wade LeBlanc started for the Orioles and Jordan Yamamoto started for the Marlins.

There was scoring in almost every inning in tonight’s game. Former Oriole, Jonathan Villar, homered to left center field to start the scoring off for the Marlins in the bottom of the first inning. Immediately following, Renato Nunez launched his own home run to left center field to even the score one to one in the top of the second inning.

Directly after, in the bottom of the second inning, Magneuris Sierra hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to bring in Lewis Brinson to make it a two to one ball game.

Shortly following the sacrifice fly ball, the Orioles were up to bat in the top of the third inning. This would be when Anthony Santander triples to right field to bring in Hanser Alberto to yet again, even the game. The score stood at two to two.

The Orioles were not done scoring in the third inning. Dwight Smith Jr. would hit a sacrifice fly ball to bring in Santander from third, thus giving the Orioles a three to two lead.

The Marlins answered right back in the bottom of the third inning. Brian Anderson singles to center field to bring in two runs to give the Marlins a four to three lead.

Once the Orioles got back up to bat in the top of the fourth inning, Chance Sisco hits a home run to right center field to tie the game at four to four.

The Marlins gave Villar a chance to bring in two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning and he did not squander that chance. He singled to right field to bring in a pair of runs, giving the Marlins a six to four lead.

Smith Jr. homered to right center in the top of the sixth inning to get the Orioles within striking distance of the Marlins. This brought the score to six to five. Nunez hits his fourth home run of the season in the sixth inning to deadlock the game at six to six.

However, the Marlins would not go down quietly. In the bottom of the seventh inning, Jesus Aguilar hit a sacrifice fly ball to score a run, this would put the game at seven to six in favor of the Marlins. Anderson hit a triple in the same inning plate a run, the Marlins would lead eight to six.

The Orioles looked like they were going to come back in the top of the ninth inning when Pedro Severino hit a single to score Chris Davis. Following the play, the score would stand at eight the seven, Marlins.

Unfortunately, with the kind of offense the Orioles had tonight, it would not be enough to win the game. The Orioles still remain in second place in the American League East. The Orioles hope to snap the losing streak tomorrow against the Washington Nationals.
