Orioles continue their winning ways

The Baltimore Orioles opened a three game series against the Philadelphia Phillies in the best possible way. The Phillies got on the board first in the third inning and again in the fifth inning. Up until the top of the sixth inning, the Orioles were losing three to nothing.

The top of the sixth inning saw the Orioles bats come to life. Renato Nunez, Rio Ruiz and Dwight Smith Jr. all earned RBIs to bring the game even three to three.

The momentum carried over to the top of the seventh inning for the Orioles. A double from Hanser Alberto scored a run and subsequently, a Santander single brought in a run. This gave the Orioles a five to three lead.

Unfortunately, the Phillies were not going to let the Orioles’ scoring go unanswered. In the bottom of the eighth inning, Bryce Harper and Jean Segura hit back to back home runs to take the lead, six to five.

The home runs looked like it was a victory for the Phillies. However, Nunez singles in the top of the ninth inning to bring in Chris Davis to tie the game and to start the rally. That was not all for this half of the inning. Severino added two more runs to make it an eight to six Orioles lead going in to the bottom of the ninth.

It was the Phillies’ turn to bat and Didi Gregorius singles to bring in two runs to bring the game to a tie once more. This game was going to extra innings.

In the top of the tenth inning, the Orioles found some extra energy once Austin Hays got up to bat. Hays smokes a ball to center field to score on an inside-the-park home run. Two runs score as a result and the score was ten to eight.

The Phillies fought all the way to the end with a Jay Bruce since to bring in Segura to make it ten to nine. This would not be enough to win the game however.

The Orioles plated ten runs on sixteen hits while the Phillies plated nine runs on eleven hits. Each team only had one error. The Orioles sit in third place in the American League East and a half game back from second.
