Orioles avoid being no-hit, lose to Rays 4-1 Recap: 7/14/19

The Orioles ended their series with the Rays today and barely avoided being no-hit and avoided going down in history.

Tom Eshelman got the start today, and over 5.2 innings he didn’t pitch too bad. Eshelman allowed four runs off five hits, while recording seven strikeouts. Unfortunately, he was given absolutely no support.

The Rays went up 1-0 in the second, following a sacrifice fly by Joey Wendle.

In the third inning, Tom Eshelman gave up a solo home run that extended the Rays lead to 2-0.

Through the fourth and fifth innings, Tom Eshelman held the game at 2-0, until the sixth, when he allowed another home run. This two-run shot put the Rays up 4-0.

The Rays pitching today was lights out, as they had a combined perfect game going into the ninth inning. Finally, Hanser Alberto got a base hit into right field. Phew, that was close.

Following Hanser Alberto’s single, Anthony Santander singled home Alberto to put the Orioles on the board.

Despite breaking the no-hitter, the Orioles lost the game 4-1.

Tom Eshelman took the loss and moves to 0-1.

Our MSB Orioles Player of the Game is Hanser Alberto, who saved the Orioles from going down in history as being the first team to have a combined perfect game thrown against them. Alberto also scored the one run for the Birds.

The Orioles host the first leg of the Beltway Series against the Nationals starting Tuesday at 7:05 PM ET.
