Navy Women’s Volleyball Makes History
Navy Women’s Volleyball made history yesterday as they swept the Maryland Terrapins 3-0 in Annapolis. The win marks the first time that the team has ever beat a team in the Big Ten Conference at the time of the match.
The Midshipmen have previously beaten Penn State in 1979 (who were in the EIAWA at the time) and Rutgers in 1983, 84′, and 85′ (who were in the Atlantic 10 at the time).
Navy head coach Paco Labrador said of the win “Matches like today are the result of great senior leadership. This senior class has set the bar for focus, hard work, and belief in each other.”
The victory drops Maryland to 4-2 and moves Navy to 5-1 on the year. Navy will head to California this weekend as part of the UCSD Invitational as they take on Denver this coming Friday night.
