Nationals sweep Cubs 7-5 in extra innings; recap 8/25/19

The Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs Sunday afternoon at Wrigley Field. The Nationals’ record currently stands at 73-57. The Cubs drop to 69-61.

Stephen Strasburg pitched a very strong six innings for Washington. Strasburg allowed five hits and ten strikeouts while pitching. Daniel Hudson allowed zero hits and two strikeouts in relief for Washington.

At the top of the fourth inning, third baseman Anthony Rendon homered to left (421 feet).

In the top of the sixth inning, catcher Kurt Suzuki grounded into double play, shortstop to second to first, Soto scored, Cabrera out at second.

Additionally, at the top of the seventh inning, left fielder Juan Soto reached on infield single to shortstop, Eaton scored, Rendon to second, Robles to third. Also, Cabrera singled to right, Rendon scored and Robles scored, Soto to third.

At the top of the eleventh inning, first baseman Howie Kendrick scored on a wild pitch. In addition to, Anthony Rendon singled to left center, Trea Turner scored.

With a win over the Cubs, the Nationals start a two game series Tuesday vs. the Orioles at 7:05 pm. Pitching for the Nationals will be Patrick Corbin.
