Nationals fall to Tigers 7-5

The Washington Nationals fell to the Detroit Tigers 7-5.

Despite some early offense from Anthony Rendon, Brian Dozier, and Victor Robles, the Tigers prevailed in two tie-breaking rallies in the middle to late innings.

Austin Voth threw 4.1 innings and gave up six hits, three runs (all earned), walked two, and struck out only three batters. Despite strong outings from Javy Guerra and Jonny Venters, the Tigers found their spark, when Tanner Rainey pitched in the seventh inning and Wander Suero in the eighth.

In the fourth inning, Rendon gave the Nationals an early lead with a solo home run. Brian Dozier followed suit with an RBI double, and Victor Robles hit an RBI single.

The game was tied twice, first with Miguel Cabrera’s RBI single in the fifth and Christin Stewart’s sacrifice fly in the seventh.

The Nationals are now 41-41, and the Tigers advance to 27-51. Tomorrow, the Nationals hope to take the series win with former Tiger, Max Scherzer, on the start. The Tigers will start former National Jordan Zimmerman, making it a must-see game for both Nationals and Tigers fans alike.

First pitch is scheduled for 1:10 p.m. ET.
