Nationals Complete Sweep, Beat Mets 5-3

It was a quick turnaround for the Washington Nationals after a franchise record 25 run outburst last night against the New York Mets and now the Nationals looked for the sweep.

Washington picked up right where they left off Tuesday night, jumping out to an early 1-0 lead on a single from Bryce Harper and later extending it to 3-0 on a two run home run by new father Anthony Rendon. The Mets however would battle back on two solo home runs by Jose Reyes-who himself allowed two home runs on Tuesday night-to draw within a run at 3-2. The Nationals answered with an RBI fielder’s choice by Matt Adams and a sac fly by Wilmer Difo and held on for a 5-3 victory to complete their seventh sweep of the season, the first since a two game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays June 5-6. The win also puts the Nationals back above .500 at 54-53 and brings them to within 5 games of first place in the NL East.

The true story today was the stellar pitching of Tommy Milone, who allowed just 3 hits and 1 earned run and struck out 9 over seven innings, giving him a much deserved win.

Nationals will continue the homestand with a four game series against the Cincinnati Reds this weekend.
