MSB staff 2019 Home Run Derby predictions

The All-Star Break is among us, and a week without Orioles or Nationals baseball is hard for some.

But the break brings with it one of the most exciting and fun events, the Home Run Derby.

This year’s derby will showcase some of the league’s best sluggers. Eight men will battle out for the trophy, but only one will be victorious.

Here are the competitors in this year’s derby:

  1. Matt Chapman- OAK 3B
  2. Pete Alonso- NYM 1B
  3. Josh Bell- PIT 1B
  4. Alex Bregman- HOU 3B
  5. Joc Pederson- LAD OF/1B
  6. Ronald Acuna Jr.- ATL OF
  7. Carlos Santana- CLE 1B
  8. Vladimir Guerrero Jr.- TOR 3B

Here are our staff’s predictions on who will win the 2019 Home Run Derby:

Jared’s Pick: Pete Alonso Alonso is the best corner-to-corner hitter in the derby. He is so balanced and can hit the ball to all sides. I think this rookie phenom will surprise everyone and come out on top tonight.

Matt’s Pick: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.- “He’s got the raw strength and power as a hitter. He can hit for average and crank up the long ball when necessary. And he no longer has Christian Yelich to deal with.”

Chris’ Pick: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.- “He’s got his dad’s legacy on his side. This is a golden opportunity for him to make a name for himself. I just have a feeling in my heart that he will go out and put on a show tonight.”

Ryan’s Pick: Josh Bell– “The dude just has pop. I think he’s young and a free swinger with nothing to lose. It’s just a gut feeling really.”

Leroy’s Pick: Pete Alonso- “I’ll take Pete Alonso. He leads MLB in home runs over 400 feet. I watched him live last year in the Futures Game and remember thinking, that guy is legit.”

Davis’ Pick: Vladimir Guerrero Jr.- “I think he’s got a really pure power hitter’s swing just like his dad, and I think he’ll soak up the big moment.”

Justin’s Pick: Pete Alonso- “Honestly, I agree with Leroy. I’m taking Pete Alonso. It’s always the ones you don’t think will win who do.”
