Mac Horvath promoted to High-A Aberdeen Ironbirds
The Baltimore Orioles’ second round draft pick Mac Horvath has been promoted from the Low-A Delmarva Shorebirds to the High-A Aberdeen Ironbirds. Horvath will be joining the Baltimore Orioles first round draft pick Enrique Bradfield Jr. with the Aberdeen Ironbirds. He has played 14 games with the Delmarva Shorebirds and batted .308 with two home runs and five runs batted in along with an OPS of .922. In 64 plate appearances he has struck out 17 times but has also earned 10 free passes. Horvath has also stolen 9 bases.
Mac Horvath played third base and the outfield in college with the University of North Carolina. Although the Baltimore Orioles have him trying out a new position which is second base. Horvath has been playing mostly second base since being drafted by the Baltimore Orioles but, he has still getting reps at third base and right field.
Horvath has shown off his offensive capabilities but still has a lot of of work to do in the minor league system. Although he hasn’t really any played his college positions on defense, he has played defense relatively well for him trying out a new position. Horvath has an opportunity to start next season in AA with the Bowie Baysox if he can keep up his offense and get used to the second base position.
