Johns Hopkins Dominates McDaniel, 2-0

On a cold, crisp mid-October night, the McDaniel Green Terror tried to cool  off a hot Johns Hopkins Blue Jays team Wednesday night at Homewood Field in northern Baltimore City.

Combining 28 shots with 14 of them shots on goal, Johns Hopkins (12-1-2; 8-0-2 Centennial League) kept the pressure on McDaniel (8-4-2; 2-4-1 Centennial League) and defeated the Green Terror soundly, 2-0.  The Blue Jays win, coupled with Gettysburg losing to Franklin & Marshall 3-2, puts Johns Hopkins into sole possession of first place in the Division III Centennial League standings.

Both of the goals for Johns Hopkins, ironically were the first goal of the entire season for each player that hit them.  The first goal came in the 16th minute when Freshman M RJ Moore (with an assist from D Jonah Muniz) found the back left part of the net, giving Johns Hopkins a 1-0.

Blue Jays Senior GK Bryan See had a very relaxing night, as he only face three shots on goal the entire game and saved all three.  His counterpart, Green Terror Senior GK Nick Over, seemed like he was constantly defending the net for all 90 minutes.  Though he allowed two goals, he managed to have some great saves, a total of 12 for the game.

Johns Hopkins second goal came in the 55th minute when Moore assisted Senior M Drew Collins for Collins’ first goal of the season to give the Blue Jays a commanding 2-0 lead.

As dominant as the Blue Jays were in the first half, they kept the pressure up as the second half started.

With most of each half played in Green Terror territory, the Blue Jays defense was just as impressive, as McDaniel would go nearly 40 minutes of game time between their second shot on goal and their third (and final) in the 60th minute. Freshman D Randall Hilleary took a shot from about eight yards out, but See wrapped it up with both hands for his final save of the evening.

There are only two games remaining in the regular season for Johns Hopkins before the Centennial League Tournament begins.  On Saturday, the travel up to Collegeville, PA to take on Ursinus before closing out the regular season at home against Dickinson on 10/27.  The Blue Jays control their own destiny and if they can pull out two more victories, they will assure themselves the top seed in the tournament.
