Game Preview: D.C. United at New England Revolution

D.C. United is on the road Memorial Day weekend ironically in the same stadium the New England Patriots play at. One of our fellow writers likes that. But this is a different kind of football. The field will be a pitch and the home team is Revolution.

D.C. United is coming off a loss to Real Betis that didn’t count in the MLS standings. The 5-2 defeat though did produce positives for the two newest faces on the Black and Red. Griffin Yow, the 16-year old homegrown product and a player on Loudoun United FC, scored his first D.C. United goal. Yow grew up in nearby Clifton, VA. and is another great story of a youth academy athlete coming up the ranks and going pro.

Quincy Amarikwa scored his first goal for D.C. United as well. He joined D.C. United in 2019 after previously playing for the Montreal Impact.

Several key pieces on D.C. United had the night off including Wayne Rooney and Bill Hamid but they’ll be back on the pitching looking to keep the Black and Red ahead of the pack in the Eastern Conference standings.

These clubs were part of the original six when Major League Soccer was formed in 1995. The clubs last met at Audi Field on Aug. 19, 2018 where D.C. United came away with a 2-0 win.

The Black and Red will look to bounce back not only from Wednesday’s loss but their last MLS game which resulted in a 2-1 defeat to the Houston Dynamo. Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m.
