Former Terp Bruno Fernando Joins Former Teammate in Atlanta After Trade With 76ers

Bruno Fernando will be joining a familiar face as he joins his new team in the Atlanta Hawks. Bruno will reunite with Kevin Huerter after playing together for one year at Maryland in 2017-18.
Bruno who was potentially a first-round selection, fell into the second round and was selected 34th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. Bruno was then dealt to Atlanta, which led to Huerter tweeting, “YESSIRRRRR. Another #Terp in the ATL!!! Lets get back to work brother.” Along with Huerter, Bruno will be joining another former Terp by the name of Alex Len.
Bruno was at the Barclay’s Center last night and cried tears of joy when he heard his name get called.
Bruno had an outstanding sophomore year at Maryland by increasing his numbers in almost every statistical category possible. Bruno finished the year averaging 13.6 PPG, 10.6 RPG, 1.9 BPG while shooting 60.7% from the field.
Bruno helped carry a Maryland team that struggled being consistent last season to the NCAA Tournament before being knocked out in the second round to LSU. In the two games, Bruno scored 14 with 13 boards and 10 with 15 boards plus 5 blocks against LSU.
With the proper development Bruno has the opportunity to have a successful career in the NBA. I believe his ceiling is much higher than recent Terps big men that were drafted, Alex Len and Diamond Stone. He has been compared to Serge Ibaka as an explosive athlete and extremely solid rim protector. Bruno must continue to develop his outside game and possess a 3-point shot. Bruno is very young and I believe has a very bright future ahead by joining an extremely young Atlanta Hawks team who added De’Andre Hunter (Virginia) and Cam Reddish (Duke).
