Eleven State-Wide CAC W-Soccer Player Earn All-Team Honors

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A total of 11 players from the Frostburg State Bobcats, St. Mary’s (Maryland) Seahawks and Salisbury Sea Gulls women’s soccer team earned either All-Captial Athletic Conference First or Second Teams honors when the list was announced on Thursday afternoon.

The Sea Gulls had the most overall on the list, with five that included for All-CAC Women’s Soccer First Team, Senior F Ruthie Lucas, Senior D Jamie Tacks and Sophomore M Dana Gordon.  Senior GK Hope Knussman and Freshman D Kayla Nomeyer earned All-CAC Women’s Soccer Second Team honors.

A trio of Bobcats were named to the All-CAC Women’s Soccer First Team and they were, Sophomore F Brooke Shehade, Senior M Melanie Bell and Junior D Alyssa Malanik.

For the Seahawks, teammates Senior D Lane Brooks, Junior M Emily Huey and Freshman F Emmey German all were announced to the All-CAC Women’s Soccer Second Team.

All three schools made the 2017 CAC Women’s Soccer Tournament (Bobcats were the #2 seed, Sea Gulls were #3 seed and St. Mary’s (Maryland) in successive fashion, was the #4 seed).  In the playoffs, St. Mary’s blanked #5 seed Mary Washington 2-0 in the first round and Salisbury also had a shut-out first round victory against #6 seed Penn State-Harrisburg.

Two more shutouts occurred in the semi’s as #1 seed Christopher Newman defeated St. Mary’s, 3-0.  And in a battle of intra-state rival, Frostburg State defeated Salisbury, 1-0.

In the finals, it was another shut out, as Christopher Newman downed Frostburg State, 4-0, to win the title.

Unfortunately, none of the three schools made the 2017 NCAA Division III Women’s Soccer Tournament field but something tells me that the Maryland Division III schools are going to want to go #1-#2-#3 next year!
