Darcy Kuemper signs a five year, 26.25-million-dollar contract.

Stanley Cup champion goaltender Darcy Kuemper, who became a free agent when the Colorado Avalanche decided to let him test free agency, signed a five year 26.25 million dollar contract. This equates to an average of 5.25 per year. Kuemper has an average of 2.48 goals against per game, giving him a save percentage of .918. During his career, he has had 25 shut out games. Kuemper is coming off of a fantastic season in which he had a .921 save percentage, with five shutouts on his way to winning the Stanley Cup. This is a very good pickup for the Capitals, as neither Vitek Vanachek or Illya Samsonov never grabbed the reigns to be the number one goaltender in Washington. This gives them a bonafide number one goaltender with lots of experience at the NHL level. He was drafted in the 2009 draft, and made his NHL debut in the 2012-2013 season.
