Caps vs Jets, Ovi celebrates 700, defense falters, and a crazy shootout.

On February, 25th, the Capitals, welcomed the Winnipeg Jets, to town and celebrated Alex Ovechkin’s 700th career goal. There is also a lot to talk about this game, so lets start with a period, by period breakdown.

In the first period, Alex Ovechkin, scored goal 701 about two minutes into the game. Vrana scored with about 10 minutes left in the first, to give the Caps a two goal lead. Orlov had the secondary assist on both goals. This was Orlov’s first multi point game of the season.

The second period saw Hathaway, score, about 7 minutes into the period, and then about a minute later get into a fight. This is two thirds of a Gordie Howe hat trick. That’s a goal, assist, and fight. This is when it all starts to go downhill for the Caps. 5 minutes after the fight, Ehlers, scores for the Jets, making it 3-1. This was the start of a downhill slope for the Caps.

In the third, it was all Jets, all period. Connor, scored about 12 minutes in. Scheifele scored with about 4 minutes left in the game to tie it. This sent the game to overtime.

In overtime, it was back and forth, but ultimately, no one scored. It seemed to go Caps have a chance, then Jets, have a chance. It was back and forth, the entire five minute, overtime period. Since no one scored, the game went into a shootout.

In the shootout, T.J. Oshie, scored first. The Jets, scored with Scheifele, tying the score at 1. Backstrom, made it 2-1. Wheeler, scored for the Jets, to make it 2-2. The very last goal was made by Ovechkin. Its fitting, that on a day to celebrate Ovi, he ends up winning the game for the Capitals. Now for the little tidbits.

The Caps, won consecutive games for the first time in a month, with this victory. It should also be noted, that the team is playing way more physical hockey, than they had been playing in the past month. It should also be noted, that Kovalchuck, the newest Capital, had a couple hits, was all over the ice, and had a really good scoring chance, that was ultimately stopped.

The Caps, play the Jets, in Winnipeg next, Thursday, at 8:00 pm. It’s the end of a home and home with the two teams.
