Caps drop Senators 3-2 on home ice, as Kuzy gets two in the game.
The Washington Capitals hosted the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday night, and all Caps fans were not disappointed. Evgeny Kuznetsov would be the first to put the Caps on the board with a 15:16 goal in the first period. This would tally Kuzy’s eighteenth goal of the season and add an assist to Oshie and Niskanen’s points for the year.
The boys would head to the locker room with a 1-0 lead, and head back out to widen the gap less than a minute into the middle period. Tom Wilson would score at :43 seconds in the second to get his eleventh goal of the season bringing the Caps to a 2-0 lead. Mike Hoffamn would find a pass from Erik Karlsson at 6:25 in the second to lessen the lead for Washington making the game 2-1.
Just before the middle period ended Kuznetsov would get his second goal of the game and bring the Caps ahead 3-1. Ottawa wasn’t done though and Erik Karlsson would put another goal on the board for his team at 3:14 in the final period. However, it wouldn’t be enough to beat the Capitals as the game ended with a 3-2 Washington lead.
This game brings the Washington Capitals back to first place in the standings with a 36-21-7 record and brings them to 79 points for the season standings. One point ahead of the Philadelphia Flyers in the standings. Washington was outshot by Ottawa 30-22, as Grubauer stopped 28 shots to bring his team to another win.
