Capitals vs. Hurricanes Game 5 Preview
After two devastating losses, the Washington Capitals return to familiar territory. Game 5 against the Carolina Hurricanes will be contested back in D.C. Both teams are shorthanded due to injuries and playoff fatigue, but look to continue as the series marches on. Alex Ovechkin and Braden Holtby have played their best, though the results of the games are tilting away from them.
Game 4 was an improvement for the Caps and much more competitive. However, TJ Oshie broke his wrist on a hit from behind by Carolina’s Warren Foegele. Despite this, Foegele has received no suspension. The loss of TJ Oshie to injury stings. Though old friend Devante Smith-Pelly returns to the lineup to take his place on the Caps offense. Smith-Pelly is reliable when he needs to be. Last year, he scored seven goals in the playoffs including the tying goal in Game 5 of the Final to help secure the Stanley Cup for the Caps.
While the Capitals are no strangers to long playoff series, they need to be more prepared headed home. The familiar territory should be a boost to the stars of the team, as they continue to try for a deep run. A seven game series is much harder than the regular season, and the Caps must be prepared to understand their opponent for tonight’s game. Everyone must come alive tonight in the pivotal Game 5.
