Capitals look to build on the strong outing they had Thursday

Today the Capitals are playing the Devils on the first game of a five game road trip. The team is hoping to build off of the success from the game Thursday. There are still some areas that need improvement, however there are still a lot of good spots to pick out.

The Capitals have been doing way better on faceoffs and it showed Thursday. They were continually winning faceoffs and getting control of the puck. They were able to stay in the offensive zone and clear the defensive zone by doing this. This is a huge step up because face offs have been an issue ever since Jay Beagle left following the Stanley Cup winning season.

The defense continued to struggle but righted the ship at the right time. The team gave up a 2-0 lead however after doing so, tightened the play and were able to close out the game with a win. Look for this to be improved in the game against the Devils.

The power play was exceptional and had Tom Wilson scoring the game winning goal on one opportunity. Look for the team to build upon the success of the power play last game and carry it over into this game.

The game is at 1 pm on NBC Sports Washington and can also be heard on 106.7.
