Capitals head to Toronto to face the Maple Leafs while making a strong push for the playoffs

The Washington Capitals, are making a strong push for the playoffs. They play a strong Toronto team tonight. The team has won the past few games, giving them two points on the Detroit Red Wings for the second spot in the wild card. Charlie Lindgren has looked unstoppable in net. The team has been playing some of their best defensive hockey as of late as well.

The Caps have been highly motivated after being all but written out of playoff contention, which has them playing their best hockey as of late. They also have been playing mostly mistake free hockey as of late. Recently, not taking dumb penalties, taking advantage of the times they get to be a man up, and moving around on the power play, and trying to get looks other than Ovi in his office.

The defense has stepped up and played harder and smarter, shutting down passing lanes, finishing checks, and just playing more aggressive. This has led to fewer chances for opponets, and also relaxes the goaltender some as he doesn’t have to stop as many shots. With Ethan Bear going into the NHLPA substance abuse program, this is giving Alex Alexeyev a chance to shine on the defense.
