Nationals Win Series, Beat Reds 2-1

The Washington Nationals ended a very good offensive weekend with a surprising defensive battle against the Cincinatti Reds.

Washington was once again the first on the board, this time striking first with a solo home run by Matt Wieters to take a 1-0 lead in the second inning. The Nationals added on in the next inning when Bryce Harper-who exited last night’s game early after being hit in the knee with a pitch-doubled to give the Nationals their second run and boost the lead to 2-0. A scary moment ensued in the top of the fourth inning when the Reds started the inning with four singles. Luckily, pitcher Tanner Roark was able to hold Cincinnati to just one run in the inning, escaping the frame with a 2-1 lead which would turn into a 2-1 victory to clinch the series.

This is the second consecutive series victory for the Nationals and the fifty seventh win on the season. The Nationals conclude their season series with the Reds having bested Cincinnati six times in seven games.

Tanner Roark had another solid outing today, allowing just one run over seven innings, giving the bullpen a much needed break after a doubleheader.

Nationals will have a day off and conclude the homestand with a four game series against the Atlanta Braves this week.
