Washington Wizards 2017-2018 Player Profile: Jodie Meeks

Jodie Meeks is entering his tenth season in the NBA and his second with the Wizards. Meeks signed with the Wizards last offseason for a contract that was one year with a player option for the second year.

It was a curious decision at the time to give Meeks a player option because he was coming off of a bad year with the Magic and did not seem to have much interest from other teams. The critics of this signing were proven right given Meeks performance in 2017-2018.

2017-2018 Statistics:
MPG: 14.5
FG%: .399
3P%:.343
FT%: .863
RPG: 1.6
APG: .9
BPG: .1
PPG: 6.3

It was an easy decision for Meeks to accept his player option for this year given his performance from last year. Meeks did not nearly live up to his expectations and just when he thought his year could not get any worse, he was wrong. Meeks was suspended by the league for 25 games for the use of PED’s, 19 of those games he still needs to serve this season.

If it were not for Meeks player option he would be out of the league, and having to miss the first 19 games means he will likely not have much impact on the Wizards this season. The Wizards will get some salary relief because of the suspension so that is pretty much the only bonus when it comes to Meeks.
