Washington Nationals’ latest roster moves: Austin Voth, Trevor Rosenthal, Fernando Rodney, Jonny Venters, and more

On the early morning of Sunday, June 23, the Washington Nationals announced that they have called up Austin Voth and released Trevor Rosenthal.

Before this release, Rosenthal pitched in relief during Saturday’s 13-9 loss to the Atlanta Braves. Rosenthal’s tenure with the Nationals ended with an 0-1 record and a 22.74 ERA.

Voth started Sunday’s afternoon game, threw six innings, and gave up four hits and two runs. His ERA currenty stands at 3.00. That game ended in a 4-3 loss, as well as a series loss.

Today, the Nationals announced that they have selected the contracts of right-handed pitcher Fernando Rodney and left-handed pitcher Jonny Venters.

The Nationals signed free agent Rodney to a minor league contract on June 4. This season, Rodney has posted an 0-2 record and a 9.42 ERA with the Triple-A Fresno Grizzlies.

The Nationals signed free agent Venters to a minor league contract on May 29. Venters posted an 0-0 record and a 17.36 ERA with the Double-A Harrisburg Senators.

Rodney has taken Rosenthal’s place on the roster, and to make room for Venters, Jeremy Hellickson has been moved to the 60-day IL, along with Kyle McGowin being optioned down to Triple-A.

The new additions will likely appear in the three-game series against the Miami Marlins starting tonight.
