Tigers Drop 4th Straight: Lose to Elon

Another week of Towson football and it has been the same song with a different verse for the Tigers. The Tigers dropped their past game to Elon University 27-10. The Tigers were able to keep it close, trailing by 7 at half, but then could not keep up and ended up with the loss. The Tigers have really been struggling on offense and it has put a lot of pressure on the defense to keep them in games. The offense still is out of rhythm and that has to change going forward for the Tigers.

Pigrome finished the day with 108 passing yards on 9 completions and added a touchdown. He also threw an INT and added 36 yards rushing. D’Kendall James had Towson’s lone touchdown on a 26-yard pass from Pigrome in the first quarter. The Tigers offense only managed 226 total yards of offense and went just 1-8 on 3rd down. The offense was able to convert 11 first downs but in the end it was not nearly enough. The Tigers also had Lukkas Londono and Nathan Kent take snaps on offense. Combined the two quarterbacks went 6-10 for 53 yards 0 TD’s and no INT’S. Pigrome led the team in rushing but the Tigers only managed 65 yards on the ground. Devin Matthews was close behind Pigrome with 6 carries.

The air attack packed more of a punch with 15 receptions for 161 yards. The defense really had to hold the line for Towson and they had some bright spots. Mason Woods continues to lead the team in tackles and has really been a bright spot on the team. Jamal Gay and Vinnie Shaffer both had a sack each. The Tigers got turnovers from Ryan Kearny and Jamal Gay but it was not enough to swing the tide.

Elon started off slow, but came back and took over the game. Matthew McKay had a ton of success through the air throwing for 312 yards and 2 touchdowns. Aside from the INT, he had himself a day. Their rushing attack managed only 77 yards and was kept at bay by the Towson defense. The 2 passing touchdowns went to Bryson Daughtry and Johncarlos Miller III. Their defense forced 4 fumbled and was able to come up with one and the INT. Elon added 4 sacks on top and really shut Towson down.

While the Tigers are reeling from their 2nd straight game against a ranked team, they are right back to work. William and Mary is the next opponent for the Tigers and is also a home game for the Tigers. This weekend is homecoming, so hopefully the crowd can give the Tigers a boost. The Tribe sit at 5-1 and are coming off an impressive win against Delaware and a win over FBS Charlotte. Darius Wilson has been decent under center for them with 7 touchdowns and 4 INTs along with 1102 yards. On the ground Bronson Yonder and Malachi Imoh lead the team in rushing yards and touchdowns respectively. The Tigers will need to keep an eye on Cailyn Newton and Lachlan Pitts who have 576 yards combined receiving  and 5 touchdowns.

Defensively, the Tribe have 4 INT’s and 3 of them coming from Jalen Jones, who will look to limit Towson’s air attack. John Pius has 9 sacks on the year and will look to make big plays in the Tiger’s backfield. The Tribe are a good team and the Tigers will need to come to play to snap this 4 game losing streak. GO TIGERS.
