Three Bayhawks Playing for Team USA; in Semifinals Today

Israel is hosting the 2018 FIL World Lacrosse Championships, July 11 through the 21st. Eight Chesapeake Bayhawks are abroad, representing five different nations; three players are playing for Team USA: Matt Danowski, Jesse Bernhardt, and Myles Jones.

Today, these three men will be playing against Australia, at 2pm EST, in the semi-final round:

Matthew Danowski

In college, at Duke University, Danowski helped propel the Blue Devils  to three NCAA semifinal berths, two national runner-up finishes, two ACC Tournament Championships and a 63-18 overall record. in 2007, he was named National Player of the Year, and awarded the Tewaaraton Trophy, as well as the USILA Lt. Raymond J Enners Award. He ended his collegiate career as the NCAA all-time leading scorer with a NCAA record of 353 points from 170 goals and 183 assists. Duke University

He was drafted for Major League Lacrosse in 2008, and became a Bayhawk in 2015. Throughout his career, of the ten categories of Career Leaders, Danowski appears on six; games played (#17, 127 games versus leader 175), points (#7, 418 points versus 589), goals (#10, 231 versus 360), 2 point goals (#4, 32 versus 55), game winning goals (#13 [tied for 6th] 10 versus 15), and assists (#9, 155 versus 254). MLL Stats

Danowski is one of Team USA’s captains.

Jesse Bernhardt

During his Maryland Terrapin playing years, Bernhardt was decorated with Atlantic Coastal Conference accolades ranging from team captain, to being named to the ACC Co-Defensive Player of the Year, and selected for NCAA All-Tournament Team. He played as a long-stick midfielder/defense.

Now, as a Maryland Terrapin coach (as of July 2017), the 2018 season treated him well. The Terrapins finished the season 14-4; beat Rutgers twice (was assistant coach in 2015, and 2016), and advanced to the second round of playoffs (but lost to Duke [Danowski is an assistant coach]). University of Maryland

Myles Jones

(Not on the official roster but there as a reserve)
Jones is definitely a Bayhawk fan-favorite! He makes the cut for Team USA for being a well-rounded team player. He was drafted by the Atlanta Blaze after graduation from Duke University in 2016, after a four-year career studded with awards (and a National Championship in 2015). So far in the 2018 MLL season, Jones is ranked #18 for goals (18 in 10 games) (amungst strictly midfielders, he is ranked #3).

Despite being down eight players, the Bayhawks season continues on. They will be playing at home, at te Navy-Marine Corps Stadium in Annapolis on Saturday July 21, 7pm.
