The DC Defenders inaugural season preview

The inaugural season of the XFL is finally here, and our DC Defenders kick off February 8 at Audi Field in Wasington, DC. There is a lot of hype behind this team, and hope of all DC football fans to have a winning football team in the nation’s capital with some familiar faces on the team lead by head coach Pep Hamilton.

The Defenders have been practicing at the University of Maryland during the past few months preparing to face against the Seattle Dragons. The players hope they can make an impact on the community the same way the Capitals, Nationals and Wizards do.

The defenders are led by former Ohio State quarterback Cardale Jones a former NFL fourth round pick of the Buffalo Bills who also spent time with the LA Chargers, and Seattle Seahawks. Jones was the first overall pick of the XFL draft, and is expected to be a star in DC.

There are also some other familiar faces on the team from the NFL including former Baltimore Ravens first round pick Matt Elam. The Defenders also include Eli Rodgers former Pittsburgh Steele wide-receiver,  Scooby Wright linebacker, Malcom Bunche offensive tackle, Dorran Johnson defensive tackle, Rashard David wide-receiver and Jaylen Smith who was cut from the Ravens training camp this year.

The Defenders also have some familiar faces with some great local talent signing players from University of Maryland and Towson. Former Terps include Will Likely, Derrick Hayward, Jesse Aniebonam. From Towson the Defenders signed offensive tackle Randall Harris, and from Bowie State Khari Lee tight-end.

The biggest story so far in DC Defender history was hearing the news that the team decided to part ways with the 35-yard king PFT Commentor.
