Success Is In The Air For The Naval Academy Basketball Programs

ANNAPOLIS, Md. —-This past week the Navy men’s and woman’s basketball teams have seen a lot of success.

Stefanie Pemper and her Navy woman’s basketball team have started the season off strong winning seven straight. That is a record for any Navy woman’s basketball team to start a season and it also was a record for coach Pemper giving her 179 victories in a 10 year span.

This win broke the record that was set by Dave Smalley the original Navy woman’s basketball coach. It took Smalley 11 years to set that record and has stood through every coach since. Coach Pemper and her team look to keep the wins rolling in with a home game at Alumni Hall this Sunday at 3 p.m. against Emory and Henry

The men’s programs this year have been having success along with the woman’s hoops. The Mids started the season off downing the University of Pittsburgh winning their first ACC game since 1971.

Shawn Anderson has had success his whole career and celebrated his 1000-point scored against Florida Gulf Coast. Anderson is the 24th Midshipman to accomplish this feat in the history of the program. He joins the club with David Robinson who was the greatest Mid in their history. Robinson went on to be one of the best big men in the NBA and a National Basketball Hall of Famer.

Next up for Anderson and the Navy men’s basketball team is Morgan State Sunday in Alumni Hall at 1 p.m.
