Recap of the Frederick Keys

The High-A affiliate of the Baltimore Orioles, The Frederick Keys, started off the season with a 6-2 road win over the Lynchburg Hillcats. The Keys followed up by losing the next two games to the Hillcats. The Keys ended up winning the final game and splitting the series with the Hillcats, 2-2.

The first home game of the season for the Keys wound up being a disappointment, losing 7-0 to the Carolina Mud Cats, as the Keys only recorded 2 hits. This would be the start of a 5 game losing streak for the Keys, in which they would be swept by the Mud Cats and lose two more games to the Hillcats. However, the Keys rebounded with their most explosive game of the season so far, recording 16 hits, 12 runs, and committing no errors in a 12-6 win over the Hillcats. This allows the Keys to fight for the opportunity to split another series with the Hillcats tonight and hopefully provide them with a means to turn around their season. In order for the Keys to start a winning streak they are going to need to win a series and one run ball games, a feat they haven’t accomplished this season.

Several players have shined during the start of the season, despite the losses. OF Glynn Davis leads the Keys, hitting .477 with 8 RBIs on the season. Davis also has a 10 game hitting streak. Left handed pitcher Matt Taylor, is also showing some promise after pitching 11 innings and only giving up 9 hits and no earned runs. The Keys have proven in the past to provide quality players for the Baltimore Orioles. The most recent notable players include Manny Machado, Nick Markakis, and Matt Wieters.
