Ravens’ “Run Game Coordinator” Roman May Depart With News of Retaining Mornhinweg

When the news broke that the Ravens are retaining OC Marty Mornhinweg, the press and fans alike were astounded. It would be the first time in John Harbaugh and Joe Flacco’s tenure that an OC could be around for more than 2 seasons. Yet for all of that consistency, there is an overwhelming amount of inconsistency still to be explained.

One of the lone bright spots this year was 2nd year upstart RB Alex Collins who ran his way into the hearts of many fans and writers alike. A big part of his emergence was Senior Offensive Assistant and “Run Game Coordinator” Greg Roman. Roman has had plenty of success when he has coordinated offenses in San Francisco under Jim Harbaugh, and even had success with a workhorse back like LeSean McCoy in Buffalo 2 seasons ago.

It seems that Roman could be on his way out though since he is garnering a lot of interest from other teams looking to take advantage of his zone running scheme that made Alex Collins a star in a dismal Baltimore offense this year. There is little to no chance that Roman will actually stay, but if he does, he will have a full stable of RB’s to experiment with next season once Kenneth Dixon returns from suspension.
