Ravens report card: 10/15/2017

The Baltimore Ravens lost to the Chicago Bears 27 to 24 in overtime in Baltimore.  The Ravens were heavy favorites to win this game but did not play well.  Multiple factors caused the Ravens to lose, extremely poor offensive play, extremely poor officiating from the start of the game and missed tackles on defense.

Quarterback: Poor Joe Flacco, another game in which he made and good throws but will be thrown under the bus.  Flacco’s two interceptions came off balls that his receivers should have caught.  Both Breshad Perriman and Chris Moore defected passes into the arms of defenders.  Flacco’s numbers simply do not reflect the way he played.  Grade C

Running backs: Possibly the only offensive unit that played well.  Buck Allen and Alex Collins ran hard and the Ravens combined for 125 rushing yards.  Allen and Collins averaged 4.9 yards a carry.  Grade B

Receivers: Chris Moore lead the Ravens with three receptions for 44 yards but his deflection that turned into a pick-six was costly.  Ben Watson had six receptions.  Just about all the Ravens receivers for in the action but costly drops really hurt the Ravens.  Grade F

Offensive line: The line played great last week but did not play well thus game.  Flacco was sacked three times and barely had time to make plays.  Grade D

Defensive line: This unit really really misses Brandon Williams.  This unit allowed 231 rushing yards which is unheard of by a Ravens defense.  The four sacks was good.  Grade D

Linebackers C.J. Mosley had 11 tackles and Matthew Judon had 14 tackles.  The linebackers got a ton of action.  The linebackers barely missed plays.  Grade B

Secondary: The Ravens secondary was not tested much.  Mitchell Trubisky only threw the ball 16 times for 116 yards.  Eric Weddle missed a big tackle in overtime that really costs the Ravens the game.  Grade C

Special teams: This game would not be close if it was not for the special teams.  Bobby Rainey had a kickoff return for a touchdown and Michael Campanaro had a punt return for a touchdown.  Justin Tucker was perfect on field goals.  Grade A++++++

Coaching staff: Once again the Ravens did not look ready to play.  The Ravens need a new offensive tactic.  Joe Flacco thrives in the no huddle shotgun why they barely went to it is beyond me.  Grade D

Overall: For the third time this season the Ravens were not ready to play football.  They were lucky they lost in overtime.  Grade C
