Ravens cut Stokley re-sign Bajema

Billy Bajema Navy Stadium 2012 PracticeThe Baltimore Ravens have cut veteran wide receiver Brandon Stokley and re-signed tight end Billy Bajema. This comes two days after the Ravens waived Bajema.

Stokley missed last game with a groin/thigh injury but has been an effective receiver this season for the Ravens. Stokley had nine receptions for 79 yards in three games for the Ravens and converted several third downs.  This move comes as a bit of a surprise as Stokley had some of the best hands on the team.

With Deonte Thompson being back from injury and the development of Marlon Brown the Ravens had more receivers than they could put on the field. Stokley is not a special teams player and may be available later in the season if the Ravens need to resign him.

Bajema is a blocking tight end and can play special teams well. The Ravens are also short on tight ends and Bajema brings experience to that position and knows the Ravens playbook.

My guess is that the Ravens know that Stokley was going to be unavailable to play this Sunday and they needed Bajema.  Stokley will likely be available to resign further down the road.

Update: Reports are that Stokley will be re-signed on Monday.

Here is the tweet from Luke Jones confirming the transaction.
