O’s come close but drop game one 3-2 to the Astros Recap: 8/9/19

The Baltimore Orioles hosted game one of a three game set against the seventy-five win Houston Astros to conclude a ten game home stand.

Dylan Bundy got the start tonight, and despite a loss on the records, Bundy pitched well. He held a great offense to just two runs on five hits while striking out six.

The Astros went up 2-0 in the first, following a pair of RBI singles. These were Dylan Bundy’s only earned runs.

Both offenses were quiet, until the Orioles broke through and scored in the fifth inning.

Jace Peterson lifted a ball into the stands in left field, off of former Orioles lefty Wade Miley. This cut the O’s deficit in half to 2-1.

The visiting Astros got a run across in the seventh, extending their lead to 3-1. Orioles pitcher Shawn Armstrong let up the RBI triple to Jose Altuve.

Stevie Wilkerson comes up to bat in the bottom of the seventh, hitting from his stronger left side. Stevie boasts his ninth home run, putting the Orioles within one run at 3-2.

Paul Fry and Miguel Castro held the Astros scoreless in the eighth and ninth innings, however the Orioles couldn’t score again either.

The Birds drop game one of this series 3-2.

Dylan Bundy earns the tough loss and moves to 5-12 on the season.

Our MSB Orioles player of the game is starting pitcher Dylan Bundy. Don’t let the loss fool you, Bundy pitched very well against arguably the best offense in the AL. Besides the two runs early, Bundy held the Astros scoreless for 5.1 innings following those runs which is what his team needed.

Catch the Birds as they take the field for game two of this series, Saturday at 7:05 pm ET.
