O’s bats come up big in 11-2 victory over Red Sox: Recap 7/19/19

The Baltimore Orioles hosted game one of a three-game set to wrap up the homestand, and the offense came alive tonight, proving too much for the Red Sox to handle.

John Means got the start tonight, and he picked right up where he left off before the All-Star Break. Means tossed six innings, allowing just two runs off four hits, while striking out two.

The Orioles got on the board early in this game. Anthony Santander took the opportunity and blasted a three-run homer to go up 3-0. That was Santander’s fifth on the year.

The Red Sox got two runs back in the second, following a two-run homer from Sam Travis. This cut the Orioles lead to 3-2.

In the third, the Birds would go up 4-2, after a triple off the wall by the speedy Richie Martin. While JD Martinez was trying to field the ball in right field, he bobbled it, allowing Martin to score on a little league home run.

Now in the fourth, it was all Orioles from then on. Keon Broxton hit a shot to left field, scoring Stevie Wilkerson and extending the O’s lead to 6-2.

Stevie Wilkerson drove in a run on a sacrifice fly in the fifth. That was followed by Richie Martin hitting into a fielder’s choice with loaded bases to score a run. The Birds then went up 8-2.

Jonathan Villar had the opportunity for a couple RBI with the bases loaded in the seventh, and he came through. Villar singled, bringing in two more runs.

Still in the seventh, Hanser Alberto scored one more run on a fielder’s choice. This put the Orioles up for good 11-2.

Our MSB Orioles Player of the Game is Anthony Santander, who went 2-for-4, with the early three-run homer. Santander also scored three runs himself.

John Means earns the win and moves to 8-5 on the season.

The Orioles look to take the series from the Red Sox Saturday at 7:05 p.m. ET.
